Step 2: Assessment and Gap Training

All internationally educated midwives must be assessed and complete a gap training/bridging program to become registered with the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM).

The assessment and gap training process takes approximately 12 months to complete.

Manitoba

The Assessment portion of the process involves:

  • an in-person written midwifery knowledge exam and language exam;
  • an in-person clinical exam

The Gap Training portion of the process involves:

  • self-study modules
  • a full-time in-person gap training intensive
  • a full-time clinical placement (clerkship)

In Manitoba we are able to offer the Assessment portion (midwifery, language and clinical exams) of the program in Winnipeg.

Gap Training is not available in Manitoba.

Gap Training is available in Ontario through cooperation with the International Midwifery Pre-Registration Program (IMPP) at Ryerson University in Toronto.   Self-study modules may be completed at a distance; the gap training intensive must be completed in Toronto, ON; and the clerkship may take place either in Ontario or Manitoba.  Successful completion of both the Assessment portion and the Gap Training is a way to become eligible to be registered (licensed) as a midwife in Manitoba.

Please note: This assessment process is not yet approved as a route to registration by other Canadian jurisdictions.

You must apply to be assessed.   The cost to apply is $100.00
