Step 3: National Exam

Once you complete an approved assessment and gap training/bridging program you must register for the Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam (CMRE).  Either your bridging program or the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM) will submit a Letter of Eligibility to the Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam (CMRE). The letter will state that you are now eligible to complete the exam.

The Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam (CMRE) is a national written exam that will assess your knowledge of midwifery. You must pass the exam to be eligible to register with CMM.

Task 1. Exam Registration
Contact CMM to register for the exam. CMM will provide you with exam details such as:

  • Locations
  • Dates
  • Fee
  • Registration form

Task 2. Exam Fee
Pay the exam fee of $750 (2017). You may pay by money order or certified cheque. Please make cheques payable to College of Midwives of Manitoba.

Task 3. Delivery
Mail or hand-deliver your exam registration form and exam payment to:

College of Midwives of Manitoba

Task 4. Exam
CMM will register you for the next available exam. The exam is offered twice a year (May and October).  Six weeks before the exam, CMM will mail you a letter that lists the time and location of the exam that you must attend. CMM will mail your exam results to you within 6 weeks. If you pass the exam, you will be eligible to register with CMM. If you do not pass the exam, you may apply to rewrite it.
