Based on the results of the written and clinical assessments, you may be eligible for gap training. Gap Training is not available in Manitoba.
Gap training is offered by the International Midwifery Pre-registration Program (IMPP) at Ryerson University, in Toronto, ON. With support from the IMPP, candidates who have completed the written and clinical assessment in Manitoba are not required to complete the IMPP assessment (Phase 1 and Phase 2 testing) and may be admitted directly to the IMPP Accelerated program*. Approximate costs for the IMPP Accelerated program are $5000. More information regarding the program, dates and costs is available on their website.
IMPP Gap training includes the following components (dates subject to change):
- Part I: (July to August) Independent Study Modules, to be completed at home on a part-time basis over a 6-week period.
- Part II: (August to October) Intensive #1, to be completed in-person on a full-time basis over a period of 7 weeks at Ryerson University in Toronto, ON.
- Part III: (October to February) A full-time 16-week Clinical Clerkship with a midwifery practice. Every effort is made to place Manitoba candidates with a midwifery practice located somewhere in Manitoba. Placements may also be available in Ontario.
*Each component of the IMPP Gap Training must be completed successfully in order to proceed to the next component. Based on performance during Intensive #1, some candidates may be required to complete the full program/Intensive #2. Participation in Intensive #2 involves additional cost and time commitment on the part of the candidate.
