Once you have passed the national exam (CMRE), you must complete an Application for Registration to become registered with the College of Midwives of Manitoba (CMM).
Application
Task 1. Application Form
Contact the CMM to request and application for registration.
Task 2. Required Documents
Gather your required documents:
a) Documents you must submit directly to CMM:
- • One passport-sized digital bust shot colour photo with a resolution of 300 dpi or higher
- – Email the photo to CMM at admin@midwives.mb.ca
- – Include your full name as it appears on your application form in the subject line of your email
- – If a digital photo is not available, please attach the photo to your Application for Registration Form
- • One photocopy of an official photo ID (Examples: passport, driver’s licence, citizenship card)
- • One copy of your valid certificate in adult and infant CPR
- • One copy of your valid certificate in neonatal resuscitation (NRP)
- • If applicable, one copy of your valid certificate in Emergency Skills (ES) and Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS)
- – If unavailable at this time, you must complete ES and FHS training and provide a valid certificate to CMM within the first six months of registration
- • A Letter of Offer from the Regional Health Authority (RHA) who will employ you as a midwife. Your Letter of Offer must include:
- – Confirmation that you will be employed upon registration with CMM
- – The date you will start employment
- • If applicable, a list of all incidents that relate to the relevant disclosure requirement
Currently all midwives practising in Manitoba are employed by an RHA. If you are considering practising via any other employer or via private practice you must provide a photocopy of your Professional Liability Insurance plan. Please contact CMM for further information.
b) Reference Forms
You must provide three references from either a midwifery colleague, consultant, employer, midwifery supervisor, department head, mentor/preceptor or instructor. Complete the Applicant section of the reference form and provide the form to your referees. Your referees must complete the form and mail it directly to CMM.

Task 3. Fees
Registration Application Fee
Pay the registration application fee of $200 (2018).
This is a one-time non-refundable fee. The fee must accompany your Application for Registration and must be a single cheque, money order or e-transfer payable immediately to College of Midwives of Manitoba.
Annual Registration Fee
The annual registration fee is $1900 (2018) and is prorated based on the month you are registered as per the installment schedule below.
Pay the annual registration fee by money order or cheque made payable to College of Midwives of Manitoba.
You may pay the fee in one lump sum payment or in quarterly installments via postdated cheques. If you are paying by installments, you must provide all postdated cheques with your Application for Registration.

Annual Registration Renewal
The CMM registration year is from April 1 – March 31. CMM will provide you with renewal information and deadlines in the month of February.
Task 4. Delivery
Mail or hand-deliver your Application for Registration form, required documents, registration application fee and annual registration fee to:

Ensure that your reference form has also been delivered to CMM.
Task 5. Jurisprudence Exam
Once your application is reviewed, you will be required to complete the CMM jurisprudence Exam. This is an open-book exam on specifics related to midwifery practice and regulation in Manitoba. There is no cost to take this exam at the CMM offices. Once your application is received you will be provided with additional information regarding this exam.
