Application for Registration

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR APPLICATION TO THE COLLEGE OF MIDWIVES OF MANITOBA

Application Processing Times

Applications must be reviewed by a committee and therefore may take up to 6 weeks to process.  Please contact the CMM to receive a more accurate timeline.

You are encouraged to submit your application even if you do not yet have access to all your supporting documentation (eg. NPR, letter of offer). 

Jurisprudence Exam

All applicants educated outside of Manitoba must complete the CMM Jurisprudence exam within three months of registration with the CMM.  We encourage applicants to complete this prior to registration with the CMM.  Please review the Jurisprudence Exam Overview for further information

Supervision/New Registrant Policy

All newly registered midwives, except those registered via reciprocity from another Canadian jurisdiction, must fulfill the requirements of the New Registrant Policy, and depending on their education and/or experience may have additional conditions placed on their registration that would require a period of supervised practice. Please review the New Registrant’s Policy and information on Supervision in order to familiarize yourself with these requirements.

Fees

Application Fee:

  • There is a one-time non-refundable application fee of $200.
  • This fee must accompany the completed application and is payable immediately via credit card, cheque, or via Interac E-transfer.
  • All Interac E-transfers and the answer to the security question must be sent to CMM – Application Fees via email to: admin@midwives.mb.ca
  • When paying by credit card the CMM charges a 2.45% credit card fee.

Annual Registration Fees:

  • Choose your payment option and confirm your anticipated month of registration
  • Please see the Fee Schedule to confirm the amount of your annual registration fees.
  • You may pay your annual registration fees in full via credit care or cheque only.
  • If paying by cheque you may pay in installments by including all postdated cheques with your application. Please see the Fee Schedule for further clarification.  If paying in installments the first installment is due on the first day of the month of registration and the subsequent installments due on July 1, October 1 and January 1 (as applicable).   If you are paying in installments, all installment cheques must be received before registration can be issued.
  • All cheques must be made payable to "The College of Midwives of Manitoba".
  • No matter when you are registered initially, registration renewal is required annually on April 1st. Registration renewal information is sent to members early February.

Professional Reference Forms

For ALL Applicants

  • You must have references submitted by three referees who must be selected from the following list: Midwifery (or other regulated health professional) Colleague, consultant, employer, midwifery (or related field) supervisor, department head, mentor/preceptor, instructor. Please forward the Professional Reference to each of your chosen referees and have them return the form directly to the CMM.

The Following Documents Must be Attached in Electronic Format

You may attach these documents at the time you open your application profile or attach them later as your documentation arrives.  Registration cannot be approved until all documentation is received.

  • Official photo ID (eg. Driver’s license, passport)
  • Current CPR training
  • Current NRP training
  • Current Emergency Skills training (or submit within 6 months of registration)
  • Current Fetal Health Surveillance training (or submit within 6 months of registration)
  • Copy of a Letter of Offer from a Regional Health Authority including proposed start date or alternate proof of sufficient liability insurance
  • I have enclosed the following Additional Skills Verification Forms (optional)
    • Placement of fetal scalp electrode
    • Epidural maintenance
    • Pharmacological augmentation/induction maintenance
    • Insertion of Intrauterine Contraceptive System/Device
    • Suturing of third degree lacerations

  Graduates of Approved Education Programs Only

  • I have enclosed a copy of my Record of Clinical Experience
  • I have arranged for my university to forward my official transcripts directly to the CMM
  • I have arranged to have my Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam results forwarded to the CMM or
    • I have not yet written or am awaiting results from the CMRE and understand I may be registered as an Exam Candidate if eligible

Gap Training or Bridging Program Applicants Only

  • I have arranged for my program to forward the following items directly to the CMM
    • Final Report
    • Clinical Experience Record
    • Final Evaluation
  • I have arranged to have my Canadian Midwifery Registration Exam results forwarded to the CMM or
    • I have not yet written or am awaiting results from the CMRE and understand I may be registered as an Exam Candidate if eligible

  Reciprocity Applicants Only

  • I have arranged for my regulatory body to forward a Proof of Professional Conduct form directly to the CMM

The Following Documents Must be Forwarded to the CMM Separately

  • Letters of professional conduct from any regulatory body where you have been registered (if applicable)
  • Three professional references to be sent directly to the CMM using the CMM reference form
  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Adult Abuse Registry Check
